2008 Premium Touring Shadow 750 Aero :
it happens to the best of us: we don't ride a bike for a view weeks or months and "forgot" to put the battery on a charger ...
... then after 2 days of charging the battery is still dead ...
A trip to the local dealer and $150 later wait another 24 hours to get the battery charged up ...
... to finally enjoy a ride. Very frustrating but it happens all the time.
I eventually learned my lesson and put SAE connectors on all my bikes and put them on a battery charger. The Battery Tender used to be my charger, never had any problems with it. Red light: charging, green light charged.
Now there is a new type of charger in town. It's more of a computer than a battery charger. It uses a patented "pulse technology" that reads the state of your battery and applies a charging algorithm to eliminate sulfation buildup on the battery plates.
So, what's the difference? Time will tell and I don't have the test lab to do a scientific comparison to a Battery Tender. However I like the readout on the charger that tells me the state of the battery "25%, 50%, 75%, 100%. It also shows if there is no connection, I had an issue with a blown fuse on the SAE connector and didn't catch that when I plugged in the battery tender. It also shows you when your battery is bad.
Update 2/4/08:
I rode my Vision to work and left it on the "accessories" setting all day. Needless to say by 6pm when I wanted to head home the battery was completely dead.
I plugged in the Xtreme Charger and after little more than 3 hours the battery was back up to 75% and I was on my way home. I don't think a Battery Tender would have done the job.

I bought it to give maintanence to my motorcycle and car battery. It came along with a free "PulseTech Xtreme Charge Quick Battery Tester", which I also recommend to give a quick check to battery and alternator.
Also, this charger (according to PulseTech) works on any type of 12V battery; Ie. Car, motorcycle, boat & lawn motor. The color on the bottom of the charger is different just to appeal consumers, but inside it's the same product. So, if you buy this charger you can use it on your other vehicles.

I have that other brand (Battery Tender), but this one gives more feedback about the health of my battery. It's worth the money!
